And Then The Fight Started

I got this lovely email forward from guess who, MY WIFE!!! Isn't that cool? I hope it doesn't mean something. :P

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds.' I bought her a weighing scale. And then the fight started...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive... so, I took her to a gas station. And then the fight started...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please." He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?" "Naaah, she can order for herself." And then the fight started...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I asked my wife, "Where do you want to go for our anniversary?" It warmed my heart to see her face melt in sweet appreciation. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested, "How about the kitchen?" And that's when the fight started....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first: the truck, the car, e-mail, fishing, always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a few minutes. When I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. 'When you finish cutting the grass,' I said, 'you might as well sweep the driveway.' And then the fight started...
The Mis-Underestimated President
I couldn't stay put with just one post on G. THush, hence here is one more. I mean he is gone now right. Just one more GREAT trackback, this time from the BBC website, how much more authenticity would anyone want, right?
BBC, with their typical debate on how Americans have spoiled the English language, bring out some of the best grammatical mistakes that Mr. G. THush had done during his press conferences, interviews and other public speaking moments. It is a collection as well with some proof of actual videos.
The best one I like is G. THush on Economics,
"I understand small business growth. I was one." New York Daily News, 19 February, 2000
"It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it." Reuters, 5 May, 2000
"I do remain confident in Linda. She'll make a fine Labour Secretary. From what I've read in the press accounts, she's perfectly qualified." Austin, Texas, 8 January, 2001
"First, let me make it very clear, poor people aren't necessarily killers. Just because you happen to be not rich doesn't mean you're willing to kill." Washington DC, 19 May, 2003
It sometimes surprises me how he spent that much time up there but I guess, taking the punch line from Slumdog Millionaire, "It was written."
Baba Ki Rani
Baba ki Rani or Baba's Princess where Baba is the name I like being called by my Daughter. That's what this post is about today. I wanted to write this under Motivational Mondays cos I couldn't be more honest when I say that my daughter is the biggest motivation in life at the moment.
On those down days where I feel I have been a failure. Failure can get you down to the doldrums. On those days, just the thought of that 3.5 inch smile... umm... ok no no that's my wife and that requires a whole different post :$.
Anyway, that 2-inch smile of my daughter flashes in my mind and for a while, I can forget all my misery and just think positive. She is my greatest inspiration. The simple question which applies to anything that I do is, why? Why am I doing this? The next that follows is "Who am I doing it for?"
The answer solves all problems for me. The answer gives the answer to all those vague questions.
I think it is very important to have that kind of inspiration as well. I have mentioned in previous posts also how it is so easy to get de-motivated rather than getting motivated again. It is just not natural for us to be motivated and stay that way. We don't take long to start complaining and going back to being ourselves soon.
Hence, the reality is that one can't count on just that great motivational song or that great movie dialogue or UTP's Motivational Mondays :P, to snap out of it and be motivated again.
One needs that special person in his own life, something personalized, for whom all the effort is being put in. It could be your family and then specifically, your child, your parents, your wife, your siblings, a friend in need, Muslim brothers in Gaza, I mean just anybody who could keep you going in the worst of times. Keep that person or people in mind and keep working hard. Cos just like success, the failures that we get in life are temporary as well and they too shall pass.
Here is the song from which today's Post Title was inspired from. The Hindi lyrics follow & you can find the English translation of the same here.
Baba ki rani hoon, aankhon ka paani hoon
Beh jaana hai jise do pal kahaani hoon
Amma ki bitiya hoon, aangan ki mitiya hoon
Tuk tuk nihaare jo pardesi chithiya hoon
Mamta ke aanchal mein jo geet gaaye hain
Baabul ne chhutput jo sapne sajaaye hain
Voh yaad aayenge, gupchup rulaayenge
Doli ke sang mere jab saath jaayenge
Khil khil ke hansna yeh sakhiyon ke baaton pe
Anjaane naamon ki mehndi yeh haathon pe
Jab rang laayegi, rimjhim ghiraayegi
Aankhen ghataaon se boondein giraayengi
Now imagine, my daughter singing that to me. She does really and does a great job at it. Her mom knows how to twist those emotional buds in me and she taught her the song. And if you are that emotional Baba that I tend to be, you would know how it feels. My caterpillar turned 3 years last week. Too fast for me. Too fast. Soon she will become a butterfly and flutter flutter away. I miss her already.
All Sports Fans
People who do know me for a little while, would know how I so want to run a Sports Website. I tried different things which included writing on other sports sites and enjoyed doing so at Sportingo. Next, came the launch of my UTP Sports Blog which I enjoyed very much also and eventually decided on merging that blog with this one due to time constraints. You can find my Sports articles under the Sports Category :P.
I also launched a Sports Chat Forum in BETA mode as I wasn't familiar with running one ever before. I gained some familiarity with the Admin functions and I believe after spending much time on it, I was prepared to actually launch my Sports Website.
That is when, this New Year, I can officially now announce the Launch of All Sports Fans. Oh, I am so happy and excited that you have no idea. This has been some sort of a dream.
I know it requires commitment and dedication which I am willing to put in along with some of my friends who have been willing to join the team as Sports Authors. Its my friends who have given me all the support to get me to believe, this can actually work. It is simply amazing what the team concept can do.
There is also a All Sports Fans Chat Forum which complements the website. This is it people. UTP has finally launched something that he always wanted.
I am very positive that this would be a success. I see big things in front of me for this project of mine and hopefully if you got a Sports Fan somewhere in you, you will come join the team as well.
If you want to give it a shot at Sports Writing, this is a great place to start. Join the All Sports Fans Authors team to get started. You will have to meet the minimum criteria but we have a lot of conditions relaxed for the time being as we are looking for new, energetic, passionate sports fans to increase our Author's base. The Editorial Team reviews and helps improve the content so that you learn on the job.
All Sports Fans, Cheer Your Hearts Out!!!
Join now & Spread the Good Word!!!
Success Formula
The post title does set it up like it would be a one liner which would continue with, "Here is the formula for success." Unfortunately, it is not so. There is no shortcut to success.
However, if there were a one-line formula, it would be, "Do your best."
This is all there is to it. It covers all the aspects of working hard, honestly with a positive attitude. You can bring in dozens of quotes on the topic but mine is just to go out there and put in the best effort you can.
I find these 3 words perfect for the Success Formula also because it covers all the different ways people define "Success". For some, it is the happiness of their family, the fulfilment of their duties and responsibilities. From a market point of view, it is to meet your customer's needs. For others its making maximum money.
"Do Your Best", is the simple way of putting it out and matching it with all the various definitions of success that have ever come up.
Okay, so its not easily done as said. It requires that extra effort, that extra push, that trying to gnaw out victory from the jaws of defeat. Continuous focus, continuous retrospection. That will & unseen faith to get up from the worst fall. That ability to ignore all the pain, forget all the negative chants and stand up to fight that one more round.
Inch by inch. Fight for that one inch ahead of the opponent. "Inches" is what I title this great inspirational speech from the movie, "Any Given Sunday". The actor, doesn't require any introduction, Mr. Al Pacino.
Motivating his team as coach, to put in their best in the last quarter of an NFL game.
I just love Sports & Sports Movies for the one soul reason that its so easy to find inspiration through them. Teamwork, motivation, inspiration...ohh...I am breathless...
Mr G. THush :P
I know I don't write on politics too much in fact rarely do I remember that I ever have. Even though I do have an opinion and do have some heated conversations at times as well, I have never blogged about it.
My wife was over-cynical about me writing a post on the man on his way out but I just had to. So I have decided to write it on G. THush. I couldn't get anymore creative.
I recently saw the last press conference of Mr. G. THush (:P) as the top man in his country. He was as usual beating about the bush (:P) which he has been for the last few years.
I just couldn't help just write one post about the Great THush.
So after the SHOE episode, I got so many flooding emails to my mailbox with pictures and comics and gifs. I ll use one of those today.
Thush in The Matrix
Isn't that some creative work. A post on Matrix will also come some day as the trilogy is one of my all-time favorites. As we say back in my home town,
Nara-aaay THush!!! G. A. THush!!! Nara-aay Nara-aay Nara-aay THush!!! G. A. G. A. G. A. THush!!! May you ...May you....Oh what the heck...I won't even waste a bad prayer on him...
Great OOGLE = GOOGLE?
OK, you have to give that credit to me. Nobody thought of that breakup for Google, right? Hopefully they don't sue me. Well that is what came to my mind when I read this particular story a few days back.
The excerpt says that since Google can be used to search for obscene & controversial material and even after repetitive messages to Google to take that stuff off their Chinese version of Google Search has gone to no avail, Chinese authorities who control what is accessed through the Internet can actually block GOOGLE.
(THAT WAS ONE BIG SENTENCE...out of breath!!!)
Only the Chinese could do that by the way or even think about doing that. I mean who blocks Google? How will we live? breathe? Amazingly, I wouldn't be surprised if they get their way at it also. Google may just bow down considering the numbers mentioned in the above linked BBC story of the potential growth of Internet usage in China and of course with Internet comes the Number One search site, Google. I will be following this story and see how it eventually ends up.
But back to my creative Great OOGLE!!! I mean I am so happy that there is that element of creativity somewhere in me. Living around creative people like my wife, its always a war between me and my inferiority complex.
Anyway, I am sure the name and the now famous brand "Google" didn't come up that way. In fact, I think I should read about how it did come up. I think I will just "GOOGLE" it? Right?
Yes, people this is a great Brand which has now become part of our normal language. I am really amazed with how some  brands just become part of our normal language.
For example, lot of people don't even call em diapers any more. They are just Pampers. Did you get "Pampers"? Rose Petal hay? Could I have some Kleenex? I believe they are called tissues in some parts of the world. Put some Dettol on it?
There are millions of such things that have become part of our lives and those Brand Managers earn millions for ensuring that it stays that way.
Anyway, I ll end this post with yet another iteration of my re-found creativity (yes, I know I am over-doing it).
Just do the Great-OOGLE People!!! Just GOOGLE!!!
Motivational Mondays - Jesus Take The Wheel
This particular song by the Season 4 - American Idol in 2005, Carrie Underwood is on my list of Inspiring Songs which I would like to say is a very elite list. The song is called "Jesus Take the Wheel". Enjoy & read further after you have heard the song. Pay extra attention to the lyrics.
Seeking help from Jesus. If we look beyond the religious aspect of it, one could easily replace Jesus  in the song with God or any other Holy Entity that one seeks help and guidance from. Its basically on what the person's Faith relies on in times of distress and hopelessness.
I think we feel that way in many situations where we believe that only God can get us through. There is no other way other than a Miracle that can get us through. That is where we want to let go off all the control that we have of our life.
We do believe that don't we? We firmly believe that we have all control there is to our lives. That is the best thing that The Creator of Life has done. He has given us just enough control of our lives so we start believing that we have the absolute full control. That is when the unexplainable happens and confuses us.
We believe that everything happens due to something that happened before. Even though that holds for a lot of times, it also doesn't hold for a lot of other times. Does everything have consequences? Did everything happen due to something that happened before? Well, without sounding too philosophical, where & how did That First Thing happen,  that started all the consequential stuff, happen? The chicken & the egg philosophy.
Think about it while I try and close this post.
So, after believing we have all sovereign control of our lives, there come those moments where, whether we want to accept or not, we feel helpless. So helpless that we do actually turn around and look for any kind of support available or something that could make it happen. Solve that un-solvable problem. It could be a deadly incurable illness to a loved one or getting that dream job at a time of financial stress. It could be at any juncture of life where we feel that no matter what we do, it wont be enough.
That is where we are counting on and hoping for a miracle. That is where we wish we didn't have control of our life in the first place. That is where we want to just let go and give the control to that Somebody much more responsible and powerful than us.
That is where we say,
"Jesus take the wheel, take it from my hand, cos I can't do this on my own, I am letting go, so give me one more chance, save me from this road I am on. Jesus take the wheel...oh take it from me..."
Personal Prayer:
Please take the steering wheel away from me. I am not good enough to be given control of my life. Please make everything right. I am sorry for messing everything up. Please.
Friday Funnies - A Tribute to Major Edward A. Murphy Jr.
I was wondering what to post this Friday as unfortunately the doom and gloom around me doesnt leave much to be "Funny" about these days. Talk about India-Pakistan relations, Gaza, The Financial Crisis and the drama around it. Not to mention Moharram is at full throttle as well and some of my Muslim brothers would be mourning.
So, I ll keep it something light and pretty stereotype. I am sure you would have heard about the famous Murphy's Laws. This particular Mr. Murphy is actually Edward_A._Murphy_Jr. who came up with the very first Murphy Law which states,
"If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way."
This led to a series of the famous Murphy's Laws from different professions and it clearly shows how pessimism comes so naturally to us. We could just easily come up with the most creative and truthful Murphy's Laws possible. Here are a few more that I could find.
The basic idea is that "If something can go wrong, it pretty much will."
Salute to Mr. Murphy. Enjoy!!!
LAW OF QUEUE: If you change queues, the one you have left will start to move faster than the one you are in now.
LAW OF TELEPHONE: When you dial a wrong number, you never get an engaged one.
LAW OF MECHANICAL REPAIR : After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch.
LAW OF THE WORKSHOP: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.
LAW OF THE ALIBI: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire.
BATH THEOREM: When the body is immersed in water, the telephone rings.
Life Rain Cloud Causes Death - Eventually
LAW OF ENCOUNTERS: The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.
LAW OF THE RESULT: When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will!
LAW OF BIOMECHANICS: The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.
THEATRE RULE: People with the seats at the furthest from the aisle arrive last.
LAW OF COFFEE: As soon as you sit down for a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.
Unlucky? or Ungrateful?
When things don't go our way, I think we are the first ones to let everyone know how frustrated we can get. We humans will hate everything, everybody, including ourselves and when we reach that crazy point we can easily become blasphemous as well. That's how we are. We want things to go our way all the time and when they don't we can turn into such monsters that people who know us would get surprised as well and give our antics the name of some sickness. Craziness, fits, mental disorder etc etc.
But basically its just us ungrateful humans.
Why do we forget at that time how much good was done also? How can we forget the simple joys, the great blessings, that we had when the good things were happening to us? Did we thank God at that time? No, No. See our logic is, if something good happens, we deserved it, we earned it. If something bad happens then we are just unlucky. How selfish and ungrateful is that?
I came across Lunatic's Post on how we more often feel than not.
After reading the post, I was wondering. Are we really Unlucky? or Are we just Ungrateful?
What do you think?
Thinking You Can or Can't
I came across a nice little quote that really made me think.
"Whether you think u can or you think u can't, you are right - Henry Ford"
I mean that's all there is to it, isn't it? If you think you can do it, you can. If you think you can't, you won't. The most amazing thing about these great quotes and the people who said them is that they say so much with just a few words. I guess that's the difference between me and them. I will make a blog-post out of it trying to get the essence out of it heheh...
"Yes, We Can!!" is something that was exploited in a humorous way in the movie "The Nutty Professor". No not the Jerry Lewis one, I am talking about the Eddie Murphy-in-all-roles one. "Yes, We Can!!" was used as a catch phrase in losing weight where the trainer shouted "Ladies, tell me you can. We can lose weight. Yes, we can." You know all that drama, getting-to-you, Oprah BS.
Its all in the head. Our brains have so much capacity that even we cant imagine. We have been stretching the limit since life came into existence. Look at where we started out and where we are today as humans. In every day and age there have been people, who believe, who think they can and those are the people who make the difference and move us one step ahead. I mean, just think what addition you as a person have made to this world. If you have been just getting up every morning, going to the routine life of work, school, college and coming back watching TV etc then basically you are no different than most people in this world. Imagine, if everybody was like that, we wouldn't have moved ahead and I would certainly not be writing a blog-post on a "computer" while being connected to the "Internet" (just to name a few inventions.)
So if you get the slightest of feeling to do something, change that something, make that difference, just believe in it and DO IT. You are still better off than us couch potatoes or wannabe philosophers and thinkers.
I would have loved being so famous that NIKE would have sponsored this post but unfortunately I got a long way to go. Anyway I will steal their famous punch line to end this post,
JUST DO IT !!!
Credit Cards & Beggars
Credit Cards & Effect on Beggars
The begging profession has been badly hit by the increased use of Credit Cards. People don't carry cash on them and the beggar's Kashkols (begging bowls) go empty. I think its better that they get one of those wireless credit card swapping machines and carry it with them. Every profession has moved on with technology so why not beggars. Its a one time investment.
I hope you didn't just ignore the above. Considering the current financial crisis and the upcoming future, this may actually not be a bad idea for each one of us. Its still better than stealing or turning into a thief you know.
Rumi’s Nuptial Night on Dec. 17, 1273
Darvish has always inspired me. He brings those elements on a blog which always have and will move me. Sufi poetry, Mystic writings and basically things that link me to Allah. In fact, I am in such a mood that when I reach his blog to find something rebellious, even that inspires me to take the opposite direction from that and move towards the right path, even closer to Allah. Hats off to you friend. I guess not many people realize that element of Sufism. Aziz Mian did that to me many times. People call him blasphemous at times but look beyond the obvious and you would realize the eventual impact his words have on the listener.
Anyway, here is Darvish's recent entry Rumi’s Nuptial Night - Dec. 17, 1273 which did it yet again for me. I have not been a book reader somehow even though I would love to. Hence it was the first time that I learnt what was written on Rumi's tombstone.
"When we are dead, seek not our tomb in the earth, but find it in the hearts of men."
That is pretty much my motto in life also. I want to leave with my impression left on this world. There is so much that one can do and not enough time. But that shouldn't stop us from not even trying. Each one of us is here in this world for a reason. Find that reason. Each one of us has something that is different or unique about us. Find that element. That is what you have to use to give back to this world, to leave that unique thumb-print. Something that you would be remembered for.
