My Butterfly

Right from the day I got some sense, I wanted to be a father. I wanted to be a Super Dad, be able to provide and be the person who my children turn around to for everything that they want. For everything that they are confused about. I wanted to be the friend, the buddy...

When I got married, I was really excited as I was much nearer to my wish and when the news finally broke that I am going to be dad, it was one of the happiest moments of my life.

On 16th January 2006, I took my daughter in my hands and spoke Allah's words in her ears, I had fulfilled my dream. That is what I always wanted to do. I wanted that the first words that she hears would be the Azaan in my voice. I felt proud and thankful and it was one overwhelming experience.

On the day she was born, the happiness was also complimented with sadness that since nothing is going to be here forever, there will be a day when we shall part. She will go away. My little caterpillar would become a butterfly.

Gradually she has grown up and this gradual part has been too quick for me to be really honest. With a period of almost 2 yrs and 5 months gone, I feel I have not done enough. I feel time is going to fast. I need to stop time and do more. This is not fair.

Soon she will be a woman and be independent. What will I do then? What do I do now...?

The above post was inspired by this.

Chamberlain Shines - Not Wilt but the Yankee ~ Joba

There is a new Chamberlain on the block. Not from the NBA, this lad is from the MLB. The New York Yankees may have struck gold by trying something new and bringing 22-year old rookie Joba Chamberlain from the bullpen to the starting lineup. It clicked like anything.

Chamberlain threw in 6  2/3innings in a 10-0 win against

No Shake-ups at Wimbledon to Date

One of the most awaited tennis tournaments of the year is here, Wimbledon. Classy and white-clad players enter the green courts with the queen in the vicinity and sweat of a the greatest tennis champions that ever lived part of the grass. Isn't that a career moment whether you win or not? Just being there.

The tournament kicked off this Monday and

Impressed...

So I am now one of those famous people at work who usually work late and get to meet the cleaners and peons who come after working hours to clean up our tables and clear out our waste bins and of course, wash our coffee mugs.

Yes, we are treated like royalty and since we bring our own mugs to save cost of styrofoam cups :$, the company ensures our mugs are kept clean.

Now what impresses me is each day, this guy, walks around keeps picking up mugs from everybody's table from our dept. In one go, he would pick up around 25 mugs. These are all of different shapes, colours, materials sizes etc and he goes and washes them. Then he comes back and puts each one of the mugs to where he picked them from. I am simply amazed how everybody gets a clean mug at his own place every morning. This guy does this as a routine and doesn't make a single mistake while keeping them at place.

I was wondering how he does it. I asked him today and he replied in his own native language which was Nepalese I think which I didnt understand and I realized he doesn't know English. So I couldn't really find out his technique. But does that matter? This poor guy who obviously has a brilliant brain and has found an algorithm obviously to somehow remember 25 mugs he picks up everyday and keep them back exactly at their spots.

I was thinking the only way he could do it is by picking up in an order and arranging on his tray and while washing maintaining that sorting order and while coming back placing them in the reverse order like he picked up.

I couldn't think of any other way he could do it. He cannot memorize mugs, I don't think so. I say this because its not only these 25. Once he is done with these, he goes ahead and picks up 25 more that fit his tray.

Day in, day out...this guy impresses me. What do you think? How does he do it?

Lebron James - 2nd Best Athlete of the World

The Wall Street Journal came out with the top 10 athletes of the world list and King James came out 2nd. The 1st was a Czech decathlete who I didn't know honestly before reading the complete article. You can read more about him there.

But let's talk about Mr. James, the 23-year old Cleveland Cavalier who can take on the best of Michael Jordan in his time. At a good height of

Make your Boss look good

OK people, its a good time to share the secret to success in a good professional career. I was amongst some good senior colleagues at work this last week and one of them was in a good mood to share some lessons from his professional life. That's where he said, "Son, I've learnt from experience...whatever you do...make your boss look good...".

Of course there are stereotype words like be honest, be a team player, dedicated and keep learning new things...keep improving etc but the bottom line is that you have to make your Boss look good...

It is important to understand that its not only you who wanted to join that particular job and do well, it is also your boss who wants you to do well so that he could do well. If you slow down, that slows him down as well. That's what the team is all about. If you do something that has been assigned to you which may usually be a small thing in the whole department's objectives, your boss will be able to take it up and say my dept produced this much under me. Its a good thing for everybody including you and your boss.

If somebody is honest, committed and all the other good adjectives you get to hear when you prepare for an interview, he would get the opportunity to work on a million things. There is so much in this world to do and learn and get better but since we are only human and there is only "One Instance" of us in this world, we can only do so much.

Hence, we usually prioritize and concentrate on the task at hand and even if we venture into something new, there is an element of thinking that it should help my current and future job. In all cases, whatever good you do, you cant go ahead without your boss's recommendation. Its the reality of life that he is there to guide you, nurture you and give you support and in return you have to

Test Cricket Championships ~ Yeah Right!!

So with the traditional form of cricket definitely at a threat of losing audience attention, ICC is trying to come to the rescue with revamped Test Cricket Championships. It is not a novel idea and has been tried before in 2001 & then in 2003 where each series and every test match played around the year has some weight-age. There was a points system and each team

Les Bleus or Azzuri? Fifty - Fifty @ Euro2008

Well Group C was the Group of Death this year at the Euro Championships but nobody expected the world cup finalists fighting to make it across to the group stage. France & Italy both are with 1 point from their draws against Romania and that leaves them riding on some luck for a chance to go to the quarter-finals.

The surprise package and hot-on-fire

This left feels right...

So the other day, my friend had this nick on MSN Messenger ~ "This left feels right..."

I just couldn't help nag on that thought a bit and what follows is quite an intellectual...conversation...so enjoy...

Griffey to Rays? False alarm...

Amidst speculation that Ken Griffey Jr. might waive off his no-trade clause in order to get traded to Tampa Bay has been cleared up by his agent. It is just a rumour but it would be really useful for Rays if it happens.

He is going to be a bit costly but he just hit his 600th career homer and has 30 RBIs. He is certainly no goat when it comes to

Federer to defy History to make History

A beautiful piece written here by Byron Vale was exactly what the doctor ordered to read for all Wimbledon fans. Especially the ones who are superstitious and who believe that history does repeat itself.

Vale has tried to match up Borg's 5 consecutive wins at Wimbledon from 1976 to 1980 to Federer's last 5 wins. There is

Defense on Pierce gets Lakers Crucial Win

Even though the NBA Finals this year hold a lot of revisiting the history and the rivalry revival stories etc, the actual story is quite boring.

If everybody does their job, the Celtics win easy. They have too much firepower. Garnett gets his 15 odd and above 10 rebounds and tough defense inside. Allen gets the scoring and Pierce plays leader, scorer and defense on Kobe, the Lakers don't stand a chance. All they could come back with

Public Toilet Probability Analysis :P

When I enter into a public toilet where there are multiple toilets, the first thought that runs through my mind is to somehow decide which one would be the least used & hence cleanest. Somehow, I feel really good when I have put my brain into some work and convinced myself that the one I used today or at the time was the least used one then.

I get this thought only when I have a choice meaning there are at least 2 available for me to choose and go in. There is no point thinking probabilities when all are filled or only one is available, right? You need to have an option to think probabilities.

So this is very much applicable to my office toilet which usually has many options no matter what time of the day you go and your mind is anyway very active. It is not as simple as going in and stepping in to the first one your mind thinks...off...that is mindless...

OK so here is how it goes...don't ever go into the first accessible one...as that is pretty much the most that has been used because most people go into mindless toileting...and the probability of

India 'too good' for Pakistan

India completed a dazzling all-round performance to make the Pakistan team think again before stepping on to a cricket field against them again. The Indians won by 190 runs after scoring 330-8 in their allotted 50 overs. The IPL 20-20 form of the game and the mindset for all Indians who were part of it showed clearly with Sehwag & Gambhir continuing the good work from where they left off, this time in national colors.

Everybody in the Indian batting lineup who

Defense-less Italy loses to Netherlands

Italy who is well-known for their defense in football history did not show much of that and definitely missed the leadership of Fabio Cannavaro. They missed him marshaling the defense even more.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Giovanni van Bronckorst all got goals to beat the Azzuri 3-0 in the first game for both teams. Group C is this

Multi-Lingual in Sneeze Reply Language

I just couldn't find the right name for this post but anyway I have settled on the above. I was roaming around the blogosphere and came across this. What a beautifully compiled post. It contains what one should say when somebody sneezes in front of him, multi-lingually. The first thing that comes to mind is the Muslim way of Alhumdulillah or Gesundheit.

The mentioned post

Red Sox Lineup Depth

The Boston Red Sox have been hit with injury at more frequent intervals this season than they would have liked and each next time its a big blow. There current record of 40-26 says a lot about the true champion material that is available in the lineup.

It all started with Curt Schilling, who couldn't even get to Spring Training and Josh Beckett missed opening day with back injury. In April only, MVP for the 2007 World Series

Nadal runs over Federer - Yet Again

Rafael Nadal shows who is Boss by beating the world No. 1 Roger Federer in straight sets at the French Open. The final score showed an unbelievable 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0 to close out a disappointing Final for most tennis fans. He is pretty much invincible currently on clay.

It seemed as though Federer never woke up from his sleep this morning. Nadal started the match with a break in the first game and continued

Celtics Beat Lakers - Series 1-0

Paul Pierce and the Celtics got the job done in Game 1 of the NBA Finals 2008 by beating the LA Lakers 98-88. While the game was all about Kobe Bryant missing shots he would make in his sleep and ending with 17 of 26 from the field, I think it was a little extra effort from Boston's defense that didn't let him drive the lane off the dribble. Kobe had to settle for jumpers most of the time or

Guess Who? Asif made a Boo Boo!!!

Mohammad Asif has done it once again. Just when I had started putting faith on the young fast bowler and that it was the Shoaib Akhtar influence that was spoiling the young lad, Asif has proven to me and I am sure millions of people wrong. He has proven that he can run a controversy by himself as well.

All that was asked of him

Fighting the Existing Reality

An office colleague of mine likes to send out these daily 'thought of the day' and I have been keeping the good ones to blog on the day when I can't really get myself to write on anything else....Here is a very interesting one...

"You never change something by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

That is applicable to so many things that we keep banging are heads on the wall for. Take it a country's politics, the sports scene, family life, wives grumbling about their husbands and vice versa, mother's and kids etc, the list can go on.

Wherever we wish to change something around or

EURO 2008 - What to look forward to?

EURO 2008 is around the corner and fans awaiting a kick-off of yet another great tournament, its a good time to speak about whats expected from the tournament. The last tournament was filled with surprises with eventual winners Greece as unexpected as it gets. They played their game well of defending like crazy and taking the opportunity to score when it comes.

The opponents will be vary of the Greeks this year but they are a much improved team with Fanis Gekas leading the Bundesliga scorers. The make-up remains the same as a

Sharapova loses with High Volume Screams

The top-seeded Sharapova crashed out of the French Open after Dinara Safina, beat her 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2. Two tie-breakers shows a hard-fought match and so it was and it was only Sharapova herself who gave it away in the second set after being 5-2 at one time.

Loss in concentration plus excellent plays from Safina just raised

Celtics vs Lakers - History repeats

Who would have imagined a Celtics and Lakers match-up in the finals at the end of last season? Not me for sure. It's only when big signings of Ray Allen & Kevin Garnett were brought in did it make any sense to put your money on the Celtics.

On the other side, Bryant hadn't really proved that he had it to take the team on his own with leadership and maturity. There was always a question mark after Shaq had left the Lakers way back then and proven he could do it on his own.

But this year, everything has fallen in place to see history come to life and the Finals air breezing across Boston & LA at the same time of the year.

Let's look at the main match-ups to see what could be expected.

PK's Strategy for Bangladesh

The 16-man squad for Pakistan's trip to Bangladesh for a Tri-series also featuring India was announced today with no big surprises but surely some disappointments.

Pakistan squad: Shoaib Malik (capt), Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal (wk), Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar, Wahab Riaz, Fawad Alam, Bazid Khan, Naumanullah (source Cricinfo.com)

I really believe the it's time where Kamran Akmal should have felt the heat and the axe. It's time they get some fresh and

From EPL to Serie A - Mourinho

Just in...Jose Mourinho has been signed as Inter Milan's new Coach. Talk about making a good switch. After leaving Chelsea early last season, he must have been under bidding around Europe considering his excellent record with Chelsea.

Inter finally signed him up for a 3-year contract and one can surely see some more championships for the recently crowned Italian Champions.

It was a surprising move to

Dubai - More Expensive to Visit / Live

Just heard the news that the Dubai Visit Visa costs have been raised starting 1st June'08. There is a short visit (1 month) visa costing 500AED as compared to 110 I think earlier and a long term visit costing 1000AED. This is crazy...

Obviously, they are unable to manage the high influx of people and I believe that is one way to get less and still earn the same. It could also be that they think it costs the government more to manage each visiting family member. There is a separate Tourist Visa,
