Well Group C was the Group of Death this year at the Euro Championships but nobody expected the world cup finalists fighting to make it across to the group stage. France & Italy both are with 1 point from their draws against Romania and that leaves them riding on some luck for a chance to go to the quarter-finals.
The surprise package and hot-on-fire
Netherlands are really showing what Oranje means with awesome football and great goals. They are already through with both matches won and 6 points. They match up against Romania (2 points) who can go through by beating Netherlands which I feel is very unlikely. This means that Les Bleus & Azzuri basically fight for the second spot to go ahead to the next stage.
At this stage, I do not know who to pick as both teams were disappointing in both their games. Not being able to get past Romania was a big disappointment. However, its time to step up the heat a bit and see some good football from the two giants of football. The big names are no longer there and the few that remain are on the French side. However they have been missing out on a play-maker like Zidane. Henry can only do so much as someone has to feed him the ball in the right places.
As for the Azzuri, they will be riding on their defense again and the counter-attack goals if any. I do expect a winner though from the game as there is much at stake.
On other fronts, Portugal, Turkey, Spain & Croatia are also through with 2 wins each. It is getting interesting now and with the recent performances, Netherlands look hot favorites. Let's see if they can keep up the good football they have been playing.
