ATP Calendar - Survival of the Fittest

Time and again we have heard some of the famous names in the game of tennis complaining about the rigorous ATP calendar. Whether they are right or not, one has to consider that every sport in this world talks about making money. From the ATP committee's point of view it is very clear that the more tennis tournaments there are the more sponsors would get involved and

obviously more money. Now whether they have crossed the line and put the pressure of fitness on the players is something that can be debated.

I sometimes wonder, these players make so much money and for what? They only make it because they are good at what they do. Sports is such a profession which requires you to stay fit anyway. Its like work for these guys who call themselves professionals. If they are who they call themselves then they should just stop complaining and get to work. They should realize that the more they play, the more they earn.

So, if the ATP calendar gets too tough for you, just a miss a tournament or 2. Take your breaks. What is the big deal anyway?

I think they have to realize that if they have got into something as a profession, they have to attend to the needs of it. One of it is fitness. I notice some of these players including the top in the world, just don't look like sportsmen anymore. Leaving Nadal out, who is the greatest example of fitness I have ever seen, all others who complain should look at themselves. If they feel its too hard on their bodies they should either work harder or just quit. You are not going to win matches sitting in the corner and complaining.

Not to be too much on Nadal's side, he also has felt the pain and is suffering from a Knee Injury. But maybe he just needs a break. Its been a tough few months for him. Physically and emotionally. He deserves the break.

Getting back on topic, I don't really think the ATP calendar is tough. If the players feel its tough, they should take a break in the middle. You don't need to play every tournament just because its there. The ranking might suffer a bit but obviously a player who stays fit and plays the whole year deserves to be higher in the ranking anyway. He is the better professional anyway.
