The top-seeded Sharapova crashed out of the French Open after Dinara Safina, beat her 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2. Two tie-breakers shows a hard-fought match and so it was and it was only Sharapova herself who gave it away in the second set after being 5-2 at one time.
Loss in concentration plus excellent plays from Safina just raised
the confidence level which she took with her right till the end of the match. Safina, sister of Marat Safin, showed some strong plays at the crucial points of the match as Maria Sharapova had too many unforced errors in the end.
This was definitely be disappointing for Sharapova considering this is the only Grand Slam she hasn't won. The other point of course being a loss to her former doubles partner. They broke up after a rift and that has obviously being disturbing her during matches with Safina.
The first set had more frustration from Safina with throwing her racket on multiple occasions. But it all turned around Safina saved a match point in the second set at 5-3 and Sharapova's screams started getting annoying for the crowd.
Many people had predicted the upset here considering their history and they would be going around with the I-said-so attitude tonight. Safina now plays Elena Dementieva in the quarter finals.
I'm very impressed with Safina's way to fight back into the match :) She didn't give up and thta's something very important :)
ReplyDeleteI hope she can get pass Dementieva as well :)
