There is a new Chamberlain on the block. Not from the NBA, this lad is from the MLB. The New York Yankees may have struck gold by trying something new and bringing 22-year old rookie Joba Chamberlain from the bullpen to the starting lineup. It clicked like anything.
Chamberlain threw in 6 2/3innings in a 10-0 win against
the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was pretty dominant. The longest inning was probably the 2nd one after which he just settled down and kept throwing nasty sliders and fastballs. He was attacking the hitters and I think that is what did it for him. That is how you pitch in the major leagues. Of course the offense did wonders to get him relaxed by getting an early lead and continuing the good stuff.
He has been a great asset from the bullpen, setting up games for Mariano Rivera to close off and many people did criticize the move to the Starting Lineup. But Jeter said that he has been good in both roles so its the win that matters.
He threw in 114 pitches and would have gone further but 2 2-out singles in the 7th forced Joe Girardi to pull him out. He has made his mark and would definitely be in the rotation for a while. Its very useful since Chien-Ming Wang is definitely out till September and Joba has come to fill in.
Of course Bobby Abreu had a good night with a homer and 4 RBIs. Cano had a lead-off homer in the 5th and a good offensive game for Jeter as well. It was a good night overall.
this guy can be amazing if and only if he can avoid injuries!
ReplyDeletehe got amazing stuff!
He is going to be quite the weapon in years to come for the Yankees. Look out for him in October (we will be there, don't worry about it :P)
