Red Sox Lineup Depth

The Boston Red Sox have been hit with injury at more frequent intervals this season than they would have liked and each next time its a big blow. There current record of 40-26 says a lot about the true champion material that is available in the lineup.

It all started with Curt Schilling, who couldn't even get to Spring Training and Josh Beckett missed opening day with back injury. In April only, MVP for the 2007 World Series
Mike Lowell was placed on the disabled list. Their new finding Daisuke Matsuzaka, 8-0 hasn't pitched since late May and May ended with the biggest bang of all. David Ortiz popped his wrist on a night which had Manny Ramirez hitting his 500th career homer.

Any other team with the above list of major injuries would pretty much struggle but not the Red Sox. They have shown perseverance and other players like J.D. Drew and recent signing Sean Casey have stepped up and have got things covered up well. They have taken the opportunity with both hands and I don't think anybody has missed any of the stars too much. They are still on top of the points table and look good to maintain that until the big names recover.

162 games is as grueling a season as it gets. Take it any sport in any place around the world and the lineup that Boston Red Sox has currently, they have much less to worry. Its actually like now they are back on matchable territory that's all. Imagine when everybody gets back to the lineup. I don't really see any serious challenges this year other than the Chicago Cubs maybe who are breathing down their neck currently.
