The Wall Street Journal came out with the top 10 athletes of the world list and King James came out 2nd. The 1st was a Czech decathlete who I didn't know honestly before reading the complete article. You can read more about him there.
But let's talk about Mr. James, the 23-year old Cleveland Cavalier who can take on the best of Michael Jordan in his time. At a good height of
6'8", he can play pretty much any position. Excellent ball handling, the shot from outside, the DUNK of course and rebounds, blocks. He is the full package and add to that a little experience and leadership which he has already been showing. This guy is just amazing and sometimes too good to be real. Let's hope he can do more than just be a great basketball player and get a few rings on his fingers.
Other interesting names were Roger "Mr. Flawless" Federer who came in at Number 6. He is reigning number 1 and will defend his Wimbledon title starting 23rd June 2008. He has been pretty good on all surfaces but has not won the French Open even though he has reached the Final only to find his nemesis Rafael Nadal. This year it was a complete mess-up for Roger at Roland Garros. But that doesn't take away the fact that he is a great all-round player with a good server and volley and great force from both forehand and backhand. Not to forget a great will to win and keep winning consistently. He is not afraid to get his clothes dirty and does play around his acrobats.
Ronaldinho & Alex Rodrigues sneaked into the top 10 at 9 & 10 respectively. Ronaldinho has been on top of his game for the recent 2 years and is definitely one of the most skillful players around. What most people don't realize is that he has got a great mind as well and is able to think many moves and passes ahead of before it actually happens. He has got all the moves and skills required to be top of the world although would love to see him lift a world-cup on his own.
A'Rod has been un-questionably the limelight of MLB in the last few years. Especially after joining the Yankees with an over-rated contract, he may not have lived up to that contract but when it comes to talent there is no doubt about his skill at all. Can play multiple positions when it comes to infield and definitely give a ball a whack. Youngest to get 500 home runs and many more to come if he can stay fit. In his good form, he is un-pitchable as he can just place the ball not just hit it to get doubles triples in the clutch positions in a game. A guy to have on any team, not for that much though.
Interesting compilation of top 10 and I would have liked to see some names like Christiano Ronaldo, Rafael Nadal, Kobe Bryant but I guess you can have only 10.
I love watching LeBron play, he's just so awesome....Good to see A-Rod on there too....he deserves it.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the criteria behind how they pick the people? I don't think LeBron should be number 2 among all of the world's athletes.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Christiano Ronaldo too, he should probably be up there.
Btw, is it just me or did you link to the wrong article?
I dont get it - our linked article had nothign to do with sports?
ReplyDeleteSo you like basket ball too.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of detroit Pistons, I like james but he is no Micheal Jordan he is still young and has long ways to go, this year I didn't like his performance in the playoffs
he was not as aggressive as he was last year, I know he doesn't have the supporting cast which some of the other stars enjoy in this league and I don't know if he will get any in the years to come.
Next year we will see a major shake up in the league, Spurs, Pistons and Suns are going put their stars on the trading block.
My mistake ...had linked to the wrong article...have just updated now....MAN...
