Multi-Lingual in Sneeze Reply Language

I just couldn't find the right name for this post but anyway I have settled on the above. I was roaming around the blogosphere and came across this. What a beautifully compiled post. It contains what one should say when somebody sneezes in front of him, multi-lingually. The first thing that comes to mind is the Muslim way of Alhumdulillah or Gesundheit.

The mentioned post
has the appropriate sneeze reply wish in around 20 different languages. It is what you say in English, Spanish, Arabic and even in Estonian, Hungarian etc.

I believe when you travel to a foreign country it is always fun to pick up a conversation with a local. You get to enjoy your trip while you get to hear the latest and the best from the true voice of the country, the common man. Finding someone who has a flu or is about to sneeze and then replying appropriately in his language can surely get a conversation started on the right note.

Of course you may end up having Spanish, Estonian flu yourself so I wouldn't recommend the above strategy too often. Saying all that, I don't mind having a little flu as I sing better with a heavy husky voice. Ok that was not related to the post and not required at all but anyway here is the sneeze reply wish in Japanese which I found catchy to end the post...

"Shitsurei Shimashita"

  2. haha... true... it is an interesting way to start a conversation but i am not sure if i am going to wait until someone sneezes to start a conversation with them but i suppose it is a possibility. Cool Post :-)

  5. @ud - you know what...getting everything correct is not the idea...try your best at the pronunciation and let the local person correct you....that sets up for a great conversation...let them do the talking...get it? Getting it wrong intentionally ;)

    @raaji - of course that is not the point...but you get a better one if it starts with a caring attitude...you know...first impressions...

    @dinky mind - you never know...it might have some mystical samurai effect on the sneezer and he may want to wait for someone to say that...after he sneezes...Japanese are known to be different in the most different of ways...

    @unaiza - na na...flu in the summer...no way...may the germs stay away...Amen...

    @icedmocha - oh somebody already ensures that every person she talks to is a HE...one-track mind...hehehe...
