Mother's Name ... Baba?

Yes. That is what my daughter said yesterday.

My daughter is 2 yrs, 6 months and a few days above that old. She just got back from my home country where she got the opportunity to move on to the next step of using her language skills. When she had gone she had already got her 1-word and 2-word replies going and after only a month or so she has started speaking sentences. It is simply amazing to see her have conversations now and I know that soon they will turn into intellectual ones as well.

As I am already weary of her growing up too quickly, it is still a difficult thing to absorb but on the good side of things, I am really enjoying our philosophical conversations.

Yesterday, we turned up another philosphical question which made it to the Blog Title Hall of Fame on UTP. We were having a normal conversation and the words mother and father sprung up. I asked her, "What is the name of your mother?"

Now the little one knew who her Mama was but her Mother...she had to think for a while...

Being the diplomat that she is, she had to make the questioner happy. That is her basic strategy that if you don't know the answer, ensure that you make the person who asked it feel satisfied with whatever you reply. So there it came...

"Baba..."

So there it is...Baba is the Mother of the little one....and that is why my friends...daughters are the cutest...especially when they have just started making sense out of their sentences...

  9. @sawj - obviously when we finished laughing ...she asked what is your father's name? The reply...Mahnoor!!! Obviously the poor child was fully confused as to why we were amused heheh...

    dont worry we corrected her the next day...

    @fariha - hehe...abu, baba she gets....its the father/mother word that is new...and had no face...to it...

    @sidhusaaheb - u r smart sidhusaheb...

    @amir - well knowing names is not really the trend in our culture...I mean...its like western culture where parents also are called by their names...and since when the child is young you would rather tell him/her what he/she should call you...than the tough actual name...baba, mama are the first words taught...

    @asma - done...but after we enjoyed the fun...of it...

    @lujee - aameen...aameen...thanks..

    @gh - yeah that would be the day...when my daughter's passport would say...father's name...BABA...

  10. That is so sweet! :) May Allah grant her health, happiness and a long life! :)

    And she's just as diplomatic as my little cousin. I showed him 2 pics today, one of my fiance and one of my best friend's husband. I know I like my fiance very much but I am not THAT blind :D I also knew the little diplomat well, so I knew what's the right answer and what will be HIS answer. :P Sure enough when I asked him which of the Dhula's was better-looking, he gave me that innocent wide-eyed look and pointed at my fiance's pic, saying, "he is sooooo handsome!" Although, all of his OLDER cousins had already told me their honest and blunt opinions, but hey, I appreciate honesty in a kid and not mind if my fiance is not Brad Pitt! :D

    My cousin, Talal, when we asked him, "What's your baba's name?"
    He replied, "Mohammad Baba Siddiqi"

    "What is your mother's name?"
    "Mohammad Ammi Siddiqi"

    Lol... For him, everybody was Mohammad and Siddiqi :D
