Torres - Brings Spain Much Awaited Glory

Euro 2008 ended with a quiet finale yesterday with Spain beating the Germans 1-0. The two best teams of Europe met in a jam-packed stadium on a lovely evening filled with happiness and an air of friendliness. The same attitudes were carried to the pitch and it was one of the cleanest finals ever played.

Both teams took a while to get going and
Spain definitely having the majority of the chances created. There was creative play and more a game of possession. It was Torres who broke open in the 33rd minute with a great ball ahead and some quick footwork to get the ball above Lehmann and to the net.

Lehmann, the German goalkeeper probably had the best game for him for the tournament but the injured Ballack, who did play was not a real threat and i think that led to a slow German offense. He plays such a crucial role in the middle and behind Klose but was ineffective for most of the game.

But all praise for a Spanish team who finally got some much awaited glory after 24 years and were by the far the best team of the tournament anyway. The highest scoring team with 12 goals and best team on defense as well with only 3 goals surely deserved to win.

Villa not playing was a bad sign at the start but the Spanish didn't really miss him as there was some good defense played by the Spanish to keep the Germans shut down. A good game to watch, maybe not for the fanatics who like high scoring games but certainly from the fans of the coaching manual, it was a great game of football to watch.

  2. It was good to see Spain will finally lifting a trophy. With all the talent they have, its a pity they don't do it more often ... especially when their more illustrious competitors under-performing.
