Collingwood - Give him some time to prove as Captain

Paul Collingwood has come a long way in quick time under the Captain's hat and even though his recent ODI ban of 4 matches is something that will raise a lot of questions on his holding the fort at this time, I think he is still the man for the job. He may not have had the ultimate head turning start to his English captaincy career but he has got the right kind of
attitude to lead.

Even though what happened should not have and he should have been more responsible and captain but I think it should still be taken in the positive. The way he came out and apologized clearly accepting his mistake is something that needs to be lauded. It takes a big man to come out accepting his mistake the way he did.

Nobody has questioned his authority or his tactics as captain and he is an important member of the side as a player as well. I think if England wants to look towards a long-term captain, Paul can surely take them to the world cup. The biggest problem that the English team has had in the recent past has not been on the captaincy front. Injuries is what has hit them from the side that won the Ashes against Australia, it has been pretty much downhill from there. Somehow a big man missing is Simon Jones. Flintoff has been on and off but its the bowling strength that won them the Ashes which they lack at the moment.

Every day a player plays the game, he learns something new and builds on experience. As captain, that learning becomes twice as fast. Knowing the player that Paul Collingwood is, he would have learnt so much from this mistake that he will back as a much much better player and leader for his team. He will be a role model. I think they need to stick to Paul for a while in the captain's role and see what develops. Its too early to decide on letting him go especially when he has shown great creativity on the field and potential to be a great captain.
